Setting Up in Valencia — Everything You Need After Arrival
You've arrived — congratulations! Now you need to get your NIE, TIE, register your address, open a bank account, set up insurance, and get a phone. We'll guide you through the entire checklist in 1–2 weeks.
New Valencia Resident Checklist
After moving, there are a number of mandatory steps to complete. We help you get through them quickly and without mistakes.
NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero)
Foreigner identification number. Required for EVERYTHING: renting, employment, banking, taxes, purchases over €1,000. Processing: 1–3 weeks.
TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero)
Physical resident card with photo, NIE, and residency expiration date. Must be applied for within 30 days of entry.
Padrón (Empadronamiento)
Municipal address registration. Required for: healthcare, school enrollment, voting, residency renewal. Processing: 1–2 days.
Bank Account
For salary, rent, and utility payments. Recommended banks: CaixaBank, Sabadell, BBVA, N26, Wise. Opening time: 1–3 days.
Health Insurance / SIP
Private insurance (€50–150/mo) or public Tarjeta Sanitaria (SIP) if you have an employment contract and padrón.
SIM Card & Internet
Major operators: Movistar, Vodafone, Orange. Budget options: Simyo, Digi, Lowi. Contract or prepaid — from €10/mo.
What You Need for Each Step

Our Setup Plan — 2 Weeks
We've structured the process so that within 10–14 days you'll be fully set up for life in Valencia.
Days 1–2: Padrón
We book an appointment at the nearest Oficina de Padrón. Bring: passport, rental agreement, form. Result: certificado de empadronamiento.
Days 2–3: NIE Appointment
We book a cita previa for NIE through sede electrónica. Wait time: 1–3 weeks (depending on demand).
Days 3–5: Bank
We open an account at CaixaBank or BBVA. Bring: passport, NIE (or NIE application receipt), padrón, contract.
Days 5–7: Insurance & SIP
We set up private insurance or apply for SIP at the Centro de Salud. We register you with a doctor.
Days 7–14: TIE
We submit your TIE application: cita previa at Oficina de Extranjería. Card is ready in 30–45 days.
In Parallel: Daily Life
SIM card, electricity/water contracts, Agencia Tributaria registration, driver's license conversion.
